Join Toppie for a conversation with Jay (Hauntcub) and Musing Mark from Canada as they first discuss pets and then delve into a more serious taboo discussion concerning NAMBLA. Everyone wants to sweep NAMBLA under the rug, but in an earnest effort to explore the topic, Toppie, Mark and Jay openly discuss some extremely taboo subject matters.
Also: Tara from Michigan won the unofficial non-contest that asked the question: What podcasting super-sar portrayed the voice of Sebastienne (Sassy’s new love interest on the Smellcast)? As fate would have it, HatM from The Angry Pantry Podcast is lending his talented voice to the Smellcast to portray Sassy’s new mysterious love-interest, Sebastienne! Congratulations to Tara for being the first to identify that HatM from Budapest!!!
Hi folks. The new Smellcast feed seems to be up on Itunes now. Please re-subscribe! As for this blog, I am having difficulty determining a way to let you all hear the latest episode of the smellcast on your computer, right now, with just a click. Libsyn just isn’t making it easy for me to know how to do this. Instead, please to use the link at the end of this entry to DIRECT DOWNLOAD the episode to your computer. At least THAT is working.
Anyway… on with the show…
The story of how Toppie triumphantly (mostly) drove his mother to Carmel NY to pick up the new family puppy dog!
So… I’ve decided to go with Libsyn as my podcast’s host provider. I know… real original solution, huh? Well. I’ll do a podcast about my decision down the road. Not all the links or itunes stuff is in place yet. But below you can find a link for a direct download. I’m also attempting to use Feedburner — and I’ve probably totally screwed that up. Anyone out there use Feedburner? I could use some advice… write me, okay?
Anyways… on with the show.
Among the topics Toppie blathers about today is his new job assignment at work, his latest car woes, a parental update, some fun listener mail and finally the biggest news of all — tomorrow Toppie and his mother will travel to the far reaches of New York State to retrieve the family’s NEW PUPPY DOG!
Toppie talks about some of the dogs that have been a part of his life. In the picture above you can see Toppie (on the right) with his father and their family dog, “Sly” which was short for “Sylvester.” Toppie figures the picture was taken probably somewhere around 1988. Toppie had come home for a visit one summer and a good time was had by all when we coaxed Sly into the water!
Sometime back in very late 2009 Toppie started to record his father as he sat at the kitchen table while Toppie cooked dinner. Over the course of a few months about 40 evenings of his father talking about news, family stories, and what was going on in his life at the time were recorded. This is just one of those recordings… all captured the same evening of January 3, 2010.
Meet Toppie’s dad as he talks about the rewiring of his 1950’s MG; gay marriage and gay adoption; unusual car paint jobs, and a new bread machine he got for Toppie’s mother. You can hear Toppie’s Mother in the background as she tries to explain a story about a dog, and a psychic test the whole family once participated in.
Of particular interest to Smellcast listeners is Toppie’s father’s speculation as to how to move a commemorative stone — the same stone that is featured in the Smellcast, episode 108. You might want to check into the archives and look it up. It’s a little story Toppie called “My Father’s Bro’mance.”
Of today’s episode, Toppie says he thinks the recording perfectly captures his father’s unique personality.
